Authors: Majumder, Suparna; Khatua, Ishani
Abstract: The COVID - 19 pandemic has led to significant changes in daily routines and lifestyles worldwide and mental health issues appeared as one of the consequences of it. This study aimed to assess the presence of several psycho - physiological parameters among young college - going undergraduate and postgraduate students due to the lockdown situation. Besides these, the evaluation of autonomous learning capacity as a positive effect of lockdown was also an important aspect of this work. Cross - sectional data were collected through Google - based questionnaires from different college and university students in West Bengal, India from late May to 1st week of July 2021. A total of 315 complete responses were obtained. Among them, 11.42% of students were under moderate depressive conditions, while 27% were suffering from moderate anxiety. Students have to use digital devices for about 7.5±3.74 hours/day, where 16.13% of respondents reported an increase in their screen time since the lockdown was declared. Sleep disorders have been reported as 19% of respondents referred to have suffered from highly variable sleeping patterns, and 15.90% suffered from insomnia. From this study, it can be concluded that social isolation as home confinement had detrimental psycho - physiological effects on college students.

Authors: Samanta, Susanta Kumar
Abstract: Role of Intellectual forces in the society is very vital. They may help a large number of people to understand different political issues, social issues, economic issues & religious issues. Through the enlightening speeches, ideas & thoughts and exchange of views, they try to enrich awareness and raise the consciousness of the general people. The damnedest thing is that such 'elite' or 'enlightened' persons or group of persons are
easing from their moral responsibility when common people have been suffering from various problems of distress, disintegration and dissociation. Common people are starving for employment, health and honour etc till they remain silent, they are not coining forward to give leadership and organise the people for proper movement, to insist them to make good choice for live. The paper is an attempt to introspect the causes or elements responsible to build up such undesired environment.

Authors: Pattanayek, Sanjoy Kumar; Mondal, Debasish
Abstract: Education is one of the fundamental indicators of social development as well as human development of a society. Development in education cannot be judged by a single dimension. The UNDP from its Human Development Report (1995) used the combined enrolment ratio and the adult literacy rate as the two basic dimensions of development of education and combined them in an education index by using arbitrarily 1/3 and
2/3 weights to the above two dimensions respectively. The present study examines the trend and pattern of development in education in the blocks of Paschim Medinipur District in West Bengal, India over the period 2005-06 to 2014-15 through the construction of Education Index (EI)by using Iterative Correlation Method (ICM) to attach proper weights to dimensional indices i.e., Enrolment Index (ENI) and Adult Literacy Index (ALI).
